The human body is made up of little pieces of sentient matter - a person is a collective of parts that often disagree with one another. That we can separate these interactions and see them as non-conversational means that we can use the same mental trick to make our interactions purely cause and effect. Like sitting backwards in a car and pretending to move in the opposite direction, we can either see the logical patterns of the world as imbued with personality or empty of it completely. God or no God.
